A stooge dog doing what a stooge dog does… We often use a “stooge” dog during our process of introducing a dog into our groups or in training sessions, but what is that? A stooge dog is a dog that is calm & predictable that can be used to gauge another dogs reactions to other dogs or to help reactive dogs overcome their reactivity! You can loop all the handles onto one loop / carabiner so you’re not holding loads of handles at once! You see lots of dog walkers offering group walks, but how should they work? And do you know your dog walker is doing It safely? We follow a step by step procedure for our groups to ensure we are introducing them to each other safely and that we are introducing the right dogs to the right groups, we do this by; • Assessing each dog individually with at least 1 solo walk • Only introducing one new dog at a time • Only introducing dogs on a 1 on 1 basis - never one new dog to an entire group! • Using calming sprays such as @petremedyofficial to ensure all dogs are in a calm state of mind • Only offering valuable resources such as tennis balls once we are SURE there are no resource guarding tendencies that could arise We are also trained & highly experienced in canine behaviour, body language and communication - this ensures we can stop any and all altercations before they start and we can recognise if your dog is happy In that situation. Had a wonderful session with Bennie today! Bennie came to us with extreme reactions, overstimulation, over excitement, pulling on the lead & general over the top behaviours the second he left the front door! Cut to now - Bennie can now leave the house without immediately becoming overstimulated (and therefore not listening to training or ques) and is able to walk past triggers without reacting. He still requires a lot of management but this is something that will improve over time & can only get better - well done Bennie! 🥳🐾 Do you have a reactive dog? We can help!
